Momento Mori
Just a quick photo today, taken last weekend at Eton College. There’s a whole lot of graffiti in one part of the school, mainly names of pupils (ranging from W. Wilberforce to the present day), but it was outside on a wall that I spotted this skull carved into an O.
Momento mori are really quite interesting. I might start a collection, as morbid as that may be… I particularly like that this one has been carved in a school; no time better than when you’re young to be reminded that one day you’re going to keel over and die. It’s also really deep, so a lot of time and energy has gone into it.
[Edit: fixed this post after the original image upload decided it would be landscape orientation and not portrait. Don't know if this was due to uploading the image from an external hard drive or what, but to fix it I copied the image onto my desktop, resized it so it was more sensibly sized, and then replaced the image. And now it works

[Another edit: I've made a few tweaks to how the photoblog plugin works, which has resulted in this image being too long yet again. I may have to refrain from posting portrait photos in future to negate this issue, or making sure there's enough text to flow around it. Ho hum.]
