32 boroughs

A while ago I decided I needed to set myself a project, so I had a valid excuse for spending a day or two every month just going out to take pictures for myself. It’s not often that I get to do completely my own thing, so I figured a project with set goals would get me out of the house specially.

It wasn’t long before I coupled this with the fact that although I’ve lived in London for some time, I’ve visited only a few corners of this great city. It turns out there are 32 boroughs in the city, and also the City of London, which isn’t a borough but counts for this project. That’s 33 different areas to visit. Starting next month, I’ll do my best to cover 3 boroughs each month, and at the end of the year have completed the lot of them.

I’m aiming for one photo that represents each, although it won’t (can’t) be representative, as the boroughs are pretty massive places. Camden, for instance, covers Camden Town, Bloomsbury, Archway, Holborn, Primrose Hill and so on. All of these places are distinct, but if I started going down to this level of geographic detail, I’d never finish. So, 33 photos by the end of the year. Should be easy.

I’m calling this project 32boroughs. It’s catchier than 32boroughsplustheCity. At the end, I’ll have a photographic map of London.

(The image of St Paul’s is currently the one I’m thinking of keeping for the City.)
