Link of the day: timelapses
Just a quick one today, no photo I’m afraid.
I mentioned a while ago a timelapse video I put together for the beginning of a fashion show, and would like to point out a much better method than I was using. The version of iMovie that shipped with my laptop is pants (and I believe that for some time Apple was offering a downgrade to those who needed features that had been removed), meaning you can’t fine-tune the duration of frames as you might expect to need to when making a timelapse.
mgdm from the ##photography IRC channel has a post on his blog detailing how to use the command-line on a Linux computer to put together a timelapse really efficiently. It’s so simple even I could manage to do it (after trying once and failing because mencoder wasn’t installed, but that’s another matter entirely!).
The timelapse I did to test this out was exactly the same as the Modo one, so I won’t bother re-uploading it. I will, however, be planning a few more for the future.
Modo Elements – timelapse
As part of my work with Modo this year, I set up my camera at the end of where the catwalk would be going up to capture a timelapse movie of the stage being constructed. The video was shot in a couple of batches (not my idea) over a couple of hours, with one frame every 30 seconds, compiled and inserted into the presentation at the beginning of the show as way of introduction.
